Veterinary Ophthalmologist in Virginia
Dr. Andrea C. Leber was born in 1964 in Switzerland. She studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Zuerich, Switzerland, graduating in 1988. After a three-year ophthalmology residency with Prof. Bernhard Spiess and defending a thesis on “Electroretinography in Beagles,” she worked as a staff ophthalmologist in a small animal clinic in Switzerland. She then started her own ophthalmology clinic in 1993, where she worked closely with two zoos in Basel and the school for guide dogs for the blind in Allschwil. In 1996 she became a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Ophthalmology.
In 2000, Dr. Leber moved to the U.S. and took her ophthalmology skills to Mobile, AL where she opened her own ophthalmology clinic, serving the Mobile area for five years. In August 2005, she moved to Virginia where she has worked with Animal Eye Care ever since. Dr. Leber is an avid marathon and triathlon participant, placing among the top 10 racers nationally in her age group several times. Her great passions are watching her two sons graduate college and participating in Team Hoyt marathon races for individuals with cerebral palsy.
